LinkedIn

Creating the app is quick, but API product access (Advertising, Community Management etc.) is gated by application and review at LinkedIn's discretion with no fixed timeline for restricted programs.

Tier 4 · Gated / partner approval20-40 min hands-onResearched 2026-10-20
DifficultyTier 4 · Gated / partner approval

Sourced LinkedIn states it reviews applications and selects partners at its discretion; restricted APIs have no fixed timeline and all apps start at a Development tier. [e1]

Your time (hands-on)20-40 min

Inferred Our estimate for creating the app and requesting access; approval is the real cost.

Approval waitNo fixed timeline

Sourced LinkedIn's Marketing access page says there is no fixed timeline, and the Community Management API page states no approval duration for either tier. Treat the wait as unknown and plan for weeks. [e1]

Composio managed authAvailable

Sourced Composio's Linkedin toolkit page lists OAuth2 and says 'Composio-managed OAuth available.' So a developer can connect users without registering their own provider app first; register your own only for your own branding, scopes or rate limits.

Who does what

An agent can

  • Draft the use-case text and map your needed endpoints to the right LinkedIn products.

You must

  • Create and own the app and company page; apply and follow up with LinkedIn.

Steps

  1. Create the LinkedIn appYouSourced

Developer portal > Create app; name, company page URL, logo; accept terms. [e2]

Why you: Needs your signed-in LinkedIn account and a company page you administer.

  2. Copy client ID and secret; add the redirect URLYouSourced

Auth tab > Application credentials, and OAuth 2.0 Settings with the redirect URL from your Composio auth config. [e2]

Why you: Secret goes to your secret store.

  3. Apply for the API products you needYouSourced

Use the product's apply link/Quick Start. Restricted programs need an application survey. [e1]

Why you: Application and business justification are yours.

  4. Wait for review; then create the Composio auth configYou or agentSourced

Own credentials; no Bearer Token support for LinkedIn per Composio. [e2]

  5. Upgrade tier if limits block youYouSourced

Apply separately for Standard through the stated process. [e1]

Why you: Support ticket / review process is yours.

Requirements

  • Sourced Create an app with app name, company page URL and logo, and accept legal terms (Composio's guide). [e2]
  • Sourced Access to the Advertising API is mandatory for applying to Matched Audiences, Audience Insights and Media Planning APIs. [e1]
  • Sourced Members need appropriate Company Page and Ad Account roles to read or act on page/account data. [e1]
  • Sourced Community Management API (posting/pages): you start on a Development tier with limited call volume, then must apply for Standard tier for full access. [e6]
  • Sourced Development tier access can only be requested with a new developer app that has no other API product. [e7]
  • Sourced Standard tier needs a screen-cast video for each use case in your request form. [e8]

Scopes and access

  • Sourced Member permissions (3-legged OAuth) are granted automatically once API access is approved. [e1]
  • Sourced Community Management Development tier: 500 app calls per 24 hours and 100 per member per 24 hours; BATCH_GET not allowed; webhooks disabled. You must apply separately to upgrade to Standard. [e1]
  • Sourced r_member_social (reading a member's posts) is a closed permission; LinkedIn is not accepting requests for it. [e9]

Review process

  • Sourced LinkedIn reserves the right to review applications and select partners at its discretion, and a partner might not be upgraded even if minimum requirements are met. [e1]

Gotchas

  • Inferred Composio's LinkedIn guide does not mention product access or review at all, so following it alone can yield an app that authenticates but lacks the API permissions you need. [e2][e1]
  • Sourced All applications start at the Development tier; you must apply separately for Standard. [e1]
  • Sourced You must complete integration and testing within twelve months of receiving Community Management API access. [e1]
  • Sourced Marketing Version 202511 will be sunset on November 16, 2026; use the latest versioned APIs. [e1]
  • Sourced Access tokens last 60 days. Refresh by sending the member through authorization again, unless you are one of the limited partners with programmatic refresh tokens. [e3][e4][e5]

If you get stuck

Inferred Authorization works but API calls return permission errors

Likely cause: The app has not been granted the API product, or you are on the Development tier with its limits.

Fix: Check which products are approved for the app and apply for missing ones.

Escalate when: No response on a restricted application; use the Developer Support Portal. [e1]

Next actions

  • Create the app today to start the clock on product applications.
  • Prepare a clear use-case description and company page before applying.

What was tested

Nothing here has been tested by hand yet.

What we are unsure about

  • No LinkedIn page we read states a typical approval duration for Development or Standard tier.
  • Share on LinkedIn and Sign In with LinkedIn products (common for simple posting) were not read in this pass and may be easier than Community Management API.
  • Third-party blogs claim timelines; they were not used.
  • No hands-on test logged yet.

Ask this guide

Questions about the ten library providers are answered from the guides, with the passage each answer rests on. For any other app it researches the web live and says so.

About the builder

Built by Moulshree Bhutra

Founding APM at Vudio.ai, applying for APM, Toolkits at Composio (Bangalore). This prototype is my answer to the take-home: a way for a developer to see the cost of an OAuth app before starting, and to trust what they read.

How I approached the problem

  • Started from what already exists. Composio publishes 46 setup guides. I read ten in full: they cover the clicking, but not setup time, difficulty or the approval wait, which is where teams lose weeks.
  • Designed for one decision. A developer asks "should I start this today?" So effort, wait, and what only you can do come first, and the steps come after.
  • Made trust visible. Every claim is tagged tested, sourced, reported, inferred or unknown, and quotes link to the page they came from. Where no provider states a number, the guide says so instead of guessing.
  • Kept the agent honest in code. The live agent cannot mark anything tested, and a quote it cannot find in a page it actually read is removed. The method page lists what was and was not checked.

Why I am a good fit

  • I have owned a product through integrations and AI. At Vudio.ai I worked across three roles as it grew from a video-commerce tool into an AI marketing platform with 10+ modules, including Shopify-connected widgets and the product side of its Campaign agent.
  • Results I can point to. I contributed to about 7x ARR growth ($30K to $0.2M) over two years through 0 to 1 launches. I redesigned Shoppable Widgets and built self-serve onboarding: activation rose about 74% and turnaround fell from 13 days to 4. I led AI Studio from 0 to 1 (ARPU up 5% among fashion brands) and built an analytics dashboard that lifted free-to-paid conversion about 10%.
  • I build to understand. I have a computer science degree and I prototype my own ideas, so I can talk to engineers about trade-offs. Top 3 of 200+ in NextLeap's Product Management Fellowship.
  • I write down what I do not know. This project lists its own gaps, including that the hands-on registrations are still being run.
